Meanderings, by George Arnold

wise in his own eyes the fool on the hill
gazes down on the town with twist & flex vision
and measures the years as they roll slowly past
heedless of being a point of derision

wise in his own eyes the fool on the hill
clearly sees what will be but he just can’t explain
and although he has tried they just can’t understand
so he keeps to himself and avoids all the pain

wise in his own eyes the fool on the hill
he espies with his eyes time is passing away
while the fools down below wrap themselves in their lives
he gives takes and lives in his own oddball way

wise in his own eyes the fool on the hill
sees the future for sure knowing certain he’s right
what a world this could be if we only could share
what the fool on the hill knows for sure in his sight.

George Arnold• George Arnold never dreamed of writing poetry as anything more than a passing fancy during his BC high school years. He stopped writing after school and finally picked up the muse again some 25 years later. Now, George is the Canadian Federation of Poets’ National Co-ordinator and the local Chair for the Oakville chapter of the CFP. In the 4 years since he returned to writing he has won two CFP Poet of the year awards and compiled over 300 poems. He is the proud step-father of two beautiful young ladies and adores his wife and soul mate Roz. He is the also the proud author of two books, Living Through Love and Meanderings.
