| Shy Muse |

POETRY | By Cheryl Antao-Xavier So long did I hide this talent The gift of muse, so priceless. The skill to create beauty
That makes the poet, the writer.
So long was passion and vision,
Life-blood of creative inspiration,
Begging to be freed on paper
To create, delight and inspire.
So cowardly have I been
To shyly shield that secret pride
For fear it be not good enough
As yet a bud in uncertain bloom.
So oft I cringed for fear of ridicule
That would have pierced my soul
Like a thrust to a mother’s heart
If cruel tongues smote her babes.
That talent then I kept unveiled
For fear of a critic’s lash.
Ere I thought to hone my craft
Give keen ear to sound critique.
To make my mark in proud effort
And boldly put forth my best
That He that bestowed it will heed
That I made good on His gift to me.
