POETRY | By Patricia A McGoldrick

The pear tree is languishing next door
Drooping with luscious amber globules
Laboriously tended
By our neighbour, Ivan, from Croatia,
Who boasts practically perfect purple plums
—the best in Canada—
slivovitz awaiting in the brown wooden baskets
while the scent of a pear plum crumble
wafts through the night air—
Put on the coffee…

• Patricia A. McGoldrick writes poems, essays, reviews about history, nature, books and people. Other recently published poems include Neighbourhoods, Flower Pots and  Irish Wake in the Irish American Post. Patricia lives and writes in Kitchener, Ontario.
