By Milena Marques-Zachariah

My mind says go
My heart pleads no
My mind says erase the past,
my heart wants it to last and last

my mind tells me promises were broken
My heart tells me emotions were woken
My mind questions the many lies
My heart says don’t question the whys

My mind shouts he puts you to the test
My heart argues he loves you, not the rest
My mind persuades I should take a break
My heart responds for whose sake?

My mind hates the petty fights
My heart says that’s alright
My mind cringes at the break of trust
My heart says leave that in the dust

My mind says my feelings will dissipate
My heart cries out let’s celebrate
My mind says love has gone rife
My heart laughs it off as this is life

My mind says he humiliates, what gall
My heart shoots back, he loves you above all
My mind says it’s time you forgot
My heart retorts you still love him a lot

My mind says he only tried to lure
My heart says you don’t know that for sure
My mind says he’s treated you bad
My heart says only when he’s sad.

My mind won’t let up
And my heart won’t let up
So while my mind churns this way and that
My heart knows I can never forget.
